Since its debut in 2006 for the 2007 model year, the Ford Edge has proven to be a remarkable mid-size crossover SUV-particularly for small- or mid-size families who want a versatile utility ride. The 2016 Ford Edge is the second model-year entry for the nameplate's second production cycle, and it gets high marks for responsive handling and loads of high-end available features; U.S. News & World Report rewarded it as a finalist for its 2016 Best 2-Row SUV for the Money and 2016 Best 2-Row SUV for Families awards. The 2016 Edge is manufactured in SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport variants; the first three offer the choice between standard front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD), while the Sport trim comes standard with AWD. The standard powertrain consists of a twin-scroll 2.0-liter 245-horspower turbocharged EcoBoost inline four-cylinder (I4) engine with start/stop technology, and a six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift technology for more driver gear shifting control. The Sport swaps the I4 with a twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 315 horsepower. Depending on powertrain configuration, the 2016 Edge can provide up to 20 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. At the base level, the crossover vehicle comes with comfort and convenience features like push-button engine start, leather-trimmed shift knob, steering wheel-mounted controls, cruise control, hands-free calling, no-extra-charge 911 assistance, and a six-speaker stereo system. For safety, the Edge comes with dual front impact, driver's knee, dual side impact, and dual side curtain airbags, as well as remote keyless entry system, rearview camera, ABS, four-wheel disc brakes, and electronic stability and traction control. Optional or upper-level trim features include 10-way driver's-seat power adjustability, front-seat heating and cooling capabilities, DVD entertainment system, HD radio, two 4.2-inch infotainment display screens, six- or eight-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat, sports-style leather seat trim, SiriusXM satellite radio, hands-free liftgate, dual-zone automatic temperature control, adaptive cruise control, universal garage-door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather wrapping and heating capability on the steering wheel, and up to six additional speakers for the stereo system.
